Dental work without dental insurance: your options

Skypay Connect · Updated August 2026 · All guides

Dental pain has perfect timing - it's never payday. And unlike most healthcare, dentistry sits largely outside Medicare, so an urgent extraction or root canal is a private bill of hundreds to thousands.

Cheaper routes worth an hour of your time

Where a loan fits

For urgent single treatments - the infected tooth that can't wait for a public list - a small loan turns a health emergency into a defined repayment. Get the treatment quote in writing, borrow that number, and keep the term as short as your budget genuinely allows.

How matching works

You complete one application with Skypay Connect - your details, income and what you're looking to borrow. Your application is then considered against a panel of lenders' criteria at once, instead of you applying to each one separately. If a lender wants your application, you're introduced directly and finish the final steps with them; the lender makes the credit decision and funds the loan.

The honest bit

No matching service can promise you a loan, and you should be wary of any that implies it can. Lenders make their own decisions. What we can do is put your application in front of lenders whose criteria you have a realistic chance of meeting - once, quickly, with no cost to you for the matching itself.

Will this show on my credit file?

The matching step itself isn't a credit enquiry from Skypay Connect. If a lender picks up your application, their own assessment may include a credit check that appears on your file - one check from one interested lender, rather than a scatter of enquiries from separate applications.

WARNING - Do you really need a loan today? It can be expensive to borrow small amounts of money and borrowing may not solve your money problems. Check your options before you borrow: for information about other options for managing bills and debts, ring 1800 007 007 from anywhere in Australia to talk to a free and independent financial counsellor; talk to your electricity, gas, phone or water provider to see if you can work out a payment plan; if you are on government benefits, ask if you can receive an advance from Centrelink. The Government's MoneySmart website shows how small amount loans work and suggests other options that may help you.
